The purpose of this panel is to discuss water management strategies, best practices, reporting and metrics in the energy industry. There is increasing interest in evaluating different approaches for managing fresh and produced water to minimize adverse environmental impacts, including surface water and ground water contamination and induced seismicity. Various approaches will be discussed, such as produced water reuse for hydraulic fracturing, treatment and use for irrigation. Applications for unconventional reservoirs throughout the US will be discussed, with emphasis on case studies in the Permian basin.
