SPE Live: Unlocking Liquid Loading - Strategies for Gas Well Performance Enhancement

Liquid loading poses a persistent challenge in gas well operations, particularly at low gas rates, leading to flow instabilities and operational disruptions.

Traditional mitigation methods incur additional costs and rely on empirical correlations, often lacking precision in field applications. In response, we present an innovative data-driven approach for Liquid Loading Detection and Prediction (LLDP), leveraging high-frequency measurements to identify liquid loading onset and correct critical rates. By computing diagnostic statistical proxy features, we characterize flow instability, adjust gas rates via feedback control, and calibrate empirical correlations for accurate prediction.

Extensively applied across diverse gas fields, LLDP consistently matches field observations, optimizing operations and minimizing costs. Case studies demonstrate substantial savings through optimized gas lift operations and enhanced field management.

This SPE Live showcases LLDP as a rapid, systematic solution utilizing field data, offering practical and precise liquid loading management, thus maximizing production and operational efficiency.
