Participants will discover how these schools create programming to keep up with the rapidly evolving industry, and will receive an overview of different training options, and recommendations for lifelong learning based on different career aiming points, advancing their technical and/or managerial skills.

Speakers

Amanda CallebergModeratorAmanda Calleberg is the Program Chair for the SPE Management Technical Section.
She has technical and commercial experience spanning the entire energy value
chain. Amanda is the Growth and Development Lead for the SPE Calgary Young
Professionals, is a board director for the CanLearn Society for Persons with Learning
Difficulties and is on her local government’s Calgary Salutes committee. Amanda
has an MBA specializing in Finance from Queen’s University and received the Dean’s
Gold Medal for the highest academic achievement in her MBA class. She has a
Chemical Engineering degree with a minor in Petroleum Engineering from the
University of Calgary and a Sustainability in Energy micro-credential from Evaluate
Energy.

Dr. Jennifer L. MiskiminsSpeakerDr. Miskimins holds BS, MS, and PhD degrees in petroleum engineering and has over 25 years of experience in the petroleum industry. Between her BS and graduate degrees, she worked for Marathon Oil Company in a variety of locations as a production engineer and supervisor. Dr. Miskimins started teaching at CSM in 2002 and was full-time until 2013 when she returned to industry. From 2013-2016, she continued to hold a part-time appointment at CSM, advising research and graduate students, while working for Barree & Associates. In 2016, she returned full-time to the university.

Dr. Miskimins specializes in well completions, stimulation, hydraulic fracturing, and associated production issues. She is the founder and current Director of the Fracturing, Acidizing, Stimulation Technology (FAST) Consortium and also co-directs the Center for Earth Materials, Mechanics, and Characterization (CEMMC). Her research interest focus on the optimization of stimulation treatments and the importance of such on associated recovery efficiencies.

Dr. Miskimins served as the first Completions Technical Director on the SPE International Board of Directors from 2016-2018. She was an SPE Distinguished Lecturer in 2010-2011 and 2013-2014 on hydraulic fracturing in unconventional reservoirs. Dr. Miskimins serves on a variety of conference organizing committees, including the SPE Hydraulic Fracturing Technical Conference and Exhibition, and as a technical editor for various journals. She is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado (License #36193).

Dr. Mohan KelkarSpeakerMohan Kelkar is Professor and Chair of Petroleum Engineering at the University of Tulsa. He received his BS in Chemical Engineering from University of Bombay, India and then MS in Petroleum and PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. His primary area of research interest is reservoir modeling and reservoir characterization. He has written over 70 refereed papers and made over 250 technical presentations. He has co-authored three books. He is actively involved in SPE activities and has received several SPE awards for his contributions including SPE Distinguished Service Award, SPE International Outstanding Faculty Award, SPE Distinguished Speaker, SPE Distinguished Member and SPE Ferguson Certificate.

Maria BarrufetSpeakerDr. Barrufet (or just Maria) is a Professor, Assistance Department Head, and the Director of Online Learning for the Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University. She earned her doctorate from Texas A&M University and is an SPE Distinguished Member. Her research focuses on the integration of capillary pressure and thermodynamics, reservoir simulation, enhanced oil recovery, CO2 storage and capture, and multiphase flow. As the Director of Online Learning, she is responsible for the department’s continuing education program and has facilitated the development of new continuing education courses for professionals. Dr. Barrufet’s service has been integral to the success of this program, and she continues to strive to educate the next generation of petroleum engineers.

Matt BalhoffSpeakerMatthew T. Balhoff is the Department Chair and a Professor in the Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering at UT-Austin. He co-leads the Industrial Affiliate Program on Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery. Dr. Balhoff received his BS (2000) and PhD (2005) in chemical engineering from Louisiana State University. He became an SPE Distinguished member in 2017 and is a winner of the 2022 SPE Lester C. Uren Award, 2014 SPE International Young Member Service Award, and 2012 SPE International Teaching Fellow Award. Dr. Balhoff has 96 peer-reviewed publications and 39 conference papers in the areas of enhanced oil recovery, carbon storage, unconventional resource production, and fundmental processes of flow and transport through porous media.
