SPE Live: Gaia Talk - Getting Ready for COP26

All UNFCCC COPs are important but none seem more critical than this year’s COP 26 in this first year of the so-called Decade for Action, reflecting the urgency of the climate and the biodiversity crisis. Much is expected of this COP 26, following re-entry of the USA to the Paris Agreement, the update of the Nationally Determined Contributions, the much-waited IPCC AR6, and the accelerated decarbonization ambitions from both public and private sector. The planet and humanity have much at stake, oil and gas has much at stake. The O&G industry’s ability to chart an optimal path forward net-zero emissions to closing the gap between decarbonization aspirations and actions will be shaped by COP 26 outcomes. Our ability to keep supplying oil and gas to meet the world’s energy demand will be shaped by COP 26 outcomes.
