Move from the Beginner to the Intermediate Level in Machine Learning

There are several concepts in machine learning and data analytics that the petroleum engineers and geoscientists, at a beginner level, tend to either ignore or do not emphasize enough. Following concepts are commonly overlooked at the beginner level:

(1) the power of unsupervised learning,
(2) model evaluation,
(3) model complexity,
(4) dependence on engineering and sensor deployment,
(5) data cleaning,
(6) extrapolation versus interpolation,
(7) feature engineering, and
(8) the weakness of neural networks.

This SPE Live discussion will help the engineers and geoscientists who want to move from a beginner level to intermediate level in data analytics and machine learning.
