3 Phase Separators on Floating Production Systems; Design and Control Philosophies

Floating production facilities are subject to motions due to waves, wind and currents (especially during stormy weather). Inherently the process equipment installed on such facilities, including the separators, is subject to these motions as well.

Since the separators are partially filled with liquid (oil and water), the liquid responds to the motions which leads to deviations in the liquid levels and/or sloshing. If the separators and internals are not designed to account for this, these effects can lead to bad separation performance, spurious level alarms, shutdowns and even damage to the separator internals. These consequences can lead to downtime and loss of production, which for many cases can be prevented through proper separator internals design and selection.

This webinar focuses on the different aspects and requirements that need to be considered in order to obtain an optimal separator and internals design for floating facilities. This prevents operational issues and damage to the equipment whilst maximizing uptime and performance. It is important to design for relevant weather conditions and motion cases to prevent over designing the equipment as this will impact the costs.
