Decommissioning is a challenging and expensive activity regardless of geography. Jim Christie will share lessons learned from decommissioning three interconnected offshore platforms in the UK North Sea, comprising almost 100,000 tonnes of topsides and 40,000 tonnes of jackets, together with abandoning over 100 wells and hundreds of kilometers of pipelines. Common to all decommissioning projects is the desire to cost effectively achieve safe, environmentally compliant and transparent results. To achieve these outcomes, Jim will share perspectives on the three important Cs to consider during decommissioning: Compliance, Collaboration and Contracting. The three Cs are universal and can be applied to any decommissioning project whether in the Gulf of Mexico or the North Sea. Jim will also highlight some of the current approaches with the regulator that provide transparency and generate alignment.
